rainysflies

Field Notes

A buoyant caddis-style dry fly for presenting to trout feeding on or near the surface. Fish it on a dead drift in riffles, pocket water, and seams where adult caddis are active. It can also work as a searching pattern during evening hatches or when fish are taking small drifting insects.

Pros

  • Buoyant dry-fly profile
  • Good match for caddis hatches
  • Visible trigger colors

Cons

  • Can be hard to see in glare or broken water
  • Less effective when fish are keyed on subsurface insects
