Field Notes

This is a collectible surface decoy-style lure rather than a modern production bait. It would be most at home as a display piece or, if fished, worked slowly on top in calm water where a salamander profile can draw strikes from curious predators. The long body and surface posture suggest a subtle topwater presentation rather than a diving retrieve.

Pros

  • Rare early Macatawa collectible
  • Distinctive salamander profile
  • Includes original box

Cons

  • Very expensive collector item
  • Not a practical everyday fishing lure
  • Condition-sensitive antique
