Description

The PENN Jigmaster reel has been a longtime favorite among anglers fishing the albacore day boats on the West Coast, as well as kingfish anglers in the Southeast. One of our earliest designs, the Jigmaster features a quick take-apart feature that allows anglers to change spools (and line classes) while on the water when the fish become line and leader shy and the scaling down of tackle is required.

Field Notes

A conventional reel for saltwater and offshore-style fishing, especially when anglers need to change spool/line classes quickly on the water. It suits trolling or casting applications where line management and durability matter, including albacore and kingfish fishing.

Pros

  • Quick take-apart design for fast spool changes
  • Versatile for changing line classes on the water
  • Longtime proven conventional reel design

Cons

  • Not a specialized modern high-speed reel
  • Requires conventional reel handling experience

Great Party Boat Reel - Solid Design Being a long-time Penn fan, the Jigmaster is built similar to the original Penn design.. Simple but dependable, the quick-removable side plate allows easy access to the internal system for maintenance, and makes it easy to swap out spools. Example, switching from braid to mono line.. Spare spools should be available through one of Penns authorized service shops listed under Parts & Services.

One star for this Jigmaster Very Disappointed in this Jigmaster construction. My old Penn reels were made in the USA and lasted decades of use. Two fishing captains inspected the reels close up and gave two thumbs down.
