Description

The PENN International VI series is designed and manufactured in the USA of domestic and imported components. Precision machined from high-strength, lightweight, aircraft grade aluminum in our Philadelphia machining center. Our experienced crew has been designing and producing durable, high-quality reels in this facility since 1932. The VI consists of a large stainless steel gear train for strength and speed, and a Dura-Drag system which results in a smoother start up and virtually eliminates hesitation, even under extreme drag settings.

Field Notes

A two-speed conventional reel for offshore big-game fishing. Use the high gear for quickly gaining line and the low gear for heavy pressure when fighting strong fish or pulling from depth. It is built for trolling, jigging, and general offshore boat fishing where durability and drag performance matter.

Pros

  • Two-speed gearing for power and speed control
  • Dura-Drag system for smooth, strong drag performance
  • Machined aluminum construction for strength and durability

Cons

  • High price point
  • Specialized offshore reel, not ideal for casual freshwater use

Reels They are well made, hopefully it remains to be made primarily in America, part of my reason for staying with penn brand. The other is I have 5- 50s and 1 -80 that are 20 yrs old and still work great. My hope is these new reels , I purchased 4-80s and 2 - 70s will have the same quality and dependability as the old ones.

Fishing simplified What’s not to like about getting off the 300 foot sea floor faster, smoother and being able to go low gear so you don’t rip the hook out of fishes mouth. Going next week to break in penn carnage lll rod and penn international vis 16 for cod and Haddock. As far as I’m concerned I buy nothing but Penn equipment, it has never let me down and stands the test of time. And only makes sense to buy direct from manufacturer that has free shipping and Penn $s to buy more gear. Pennfishing.com provides this

#1 bluegill setup this reel has never let me down, i have caught several bluegill on this. paired it up with an ugly stik ice rod, filled the reel with 40,364 yards of 6lb braid, and left the dock. once i first hooked into this monstrous fish, the bluegill was pulling drag for about 25 minutes before slowing down. once i locked up the drag, i was surprised to see that the 100lb drag rating was nothing against these tiny but mighty fish. i was even more surprised at the fact that the 100lb drag did not snap any of my line, being that my line was only 6lb. after another 45 minutes of gruesome fighting, i tired the fish to reel it up until my reel was just about full. once i saw the top shot coming onto the reel, which was 2lb SOS trout monofilament fishing line, i was sure to realize that i only had about 1,000 yards left to pull this fish in. after getting the fish up next to the boat, i took the net out of my bait bucket and took the fish into the boat. 10/10 i would definitely recommend this reel. it hasnt let me down, and neither has my ugly stik ice rod that was only $25.99.
