Hareline Dubbin

Field Notes

Used as fly-tying beads to add weight and a finished head to nymphs, streamers, and other flies. Brass beads are commonly chosen when you want a bit of extra sink rate without changing the fly pattern itself.

Pros

  • Adds weight for faster sink rate
  • Creates a clean, finished fly head
  • Simple fly-tying component

Cons

  • Color can wear or chip over time
  • Brass is heavier than plastic but lighter than tungsten
