Description

CDC feathers originate from the duck rump, which is the place surrounding the duck's oil gland. The feathers are saturated with natural oils, which keeps even the largest artificial flies on the surface of water. CDC Puffs have a different feather structure and are smaller and finer than the CDC feathers. They are ideal for tiny emerger wings and palmering around the neck of flies like the Peach Fuzz and for the body of the CDC Caddis.

Field Notes

Fly tying material used to add buoyancy and lifelike movement to dry flies, emergers, and caddis patterns. Best when you want a small, fine feather that helps flies ride high or create a soft, buggy profile on the water.

Pros

  • Very buoyant natural feather material
  • Excellent for tiny emerger wings and palmered bodies
  • Useful for a wide range of trout fly patterns

Cons

  • Delicate material that can be fiddly to tie with
  • Not a finished fishing lure or fly
