Description

Bottom bait in the image. Muskies eat northern pike, plain and simple. If your lake has a multitude of runt size hammer handle pike, you can bet the big muskies in that system are eating them. Years ago, we offered a natural pike, and this year we’ve upped the game with a killer black pike pattern. We had clearwater and low light conditions in mind when we made these. Limited quantities this time.

Field Notes

This is a large topwater bait meant to imitate a small pike and draw big musky strikes. It is best worked over open water or along weed edges with a steady retrieve, pauses, or a walk-the-dog style cadence to trigger reaction bites. The black pike pattern is especially suited to clear water and low-light conditions.

Pros

  • Large profile that imitates a baitfish-sized pike
  • Strong visual presence in clear water and low light
  • Good for provoking aggressive musky strikes

Cons

  • Too large and specialized for casual use
  • Can be less effective in very dirty water
