Eagle Claw

Field Notes

A slip float is used to suspend bait at a set depth while allowing long casts and precise depth control. This pencil style is useful for presenting live bait or small jigs over weeds, drop-offs, or other depth changes, especially when fish are holding off the bottom.

Pros

  • Easy depth adjustment with a slip-float setup
  • Good casting distance and bite visibility
  • Works well for suspended panfish and other light-bite situations

Cons

  • Requires bobber stops and rigging setup
  • Not ideal for heavy wind or rough water
