Description

Down Beat Jigs incorporate the time-tested design of traditional jigging lures but add some special features others lack. Rather than being a shaped chunk of lead with a hook, Down Beats have a flared portion (wings) that causes them to sort of a ‘dance’ when free-dropped. When they change direction, a brass rattle emits a clicking sound that fish can detect. Add to all those colors that ‘pop’ and a tail-flitter spinner blade, and you wind up with something exceptional, something most fish haven’t seen before. Field Notes

Free-drop or jig the lure to let the flared “wings” create a dancing fall. When it changes direction, the brass rattle clicks to draw fish in, and the tail-flitter spinner blade adds extra flash as you work it.

Pros

  • Dancing fall from flared wing design
  • Brass rattle adds detectable clicking sound
  • Spinner blade provides added flash/attraction

Cons

  • More complex than a basic jig (more moving parts)
  • Best results likely require active jigging rather than dead-drifting
