Field Notes

Troll the Chopper in clean offshore water using medium or long rigger positions. Run it at about 6–9 knots and let the flat-faced head create a slight side-to-side swim and surface “explosion” effect to trigger billfish and pelagics.

Pros

  • Flat-faced head creates an “explodes out of the water” look
  • Slight side-to-side swimming action
  • Smoke trail helps draw in picky billfish and pelagics
  • Designed for offshore trolling spreads (rigger positions)

Cons

  • Requires trolling setup/speed control (not a cast-and-retrieve lure)
  • Best results depend on clean water and correct rigger placement
