Description

Tied originally to replicate the emerging dun of a March Brown on rivers further afield, this fly has found use bringing flies up to the surface early season and throughout. It also works brilliantly as a dry fly with a nymph suspended underneath for fish that would be spooked by a form of indicator.

Field Notes

This is a dry fly designed to imitate an emerging March Brown dun and bring fish to the surface. It is best on rivers and other trout water when fish are keying on hatching insects, especially early season. It can also be fished as the top fly in a dry-dropper setup with a nymph suspended underneath.

Pros

  • Good March Brown imitation
  • Floats on the surface
  • Useful for dry-dropper rigs

Cons

  • Can be subtle to see at distance
  • Less effective when fish are not feeding on surface insects
