Hareline Dubbin

Field Notes

Used as fly tying beads to add weight and flash to nymphs, streamers, and other subsurface patterns. They are commonly slid onto the hook shank before tying to help the fly sink and to create a more finished head.

Pros

  • Adds weight for faster sink rate
  • Provides a clean, finished fly head
  • Multiple metallic finishes for matching patterns

Cons

  • Can be too heavy for very small hooks
  • Not useful on patterns that need to stay high in the water column
