Chippers

Field Notes

A floating goby-style soft bait is best used around bottom-oriented forage areas where bass are feeding on gobies or similar baitfish. Cast it near rocks, docks, or drop-offs and work it with a steady retrieve or subtle hops to keep it in the strike zone.

Pros

  • Floating profile can stay higher in the water column
  • Gobies are a proven bass forage imitation
  • Color can stand out in stained water or low light

Cons

  • Floating action may be less effective when fish are pinned to bottom
  • Specialized forage imitation may not appeal in all lakes
