Description

BASED ON A YUKI ITO HAND-CARVED ORIGINAL, THIS TOPWATER LURE UPS THE ANTE WITH A UNIQUE WATER INTAKE GILL-SYSTEM. IT FEATURES A UNIQUE GILL SYSTEM THAT CONSISTS OF FOUR WATER INTAKES, CREATING LIFE-LIKE BUBBLES AND CHUGGING-ACTION. THE INTAKE CHANNELS WATER THROUGH THE GILLS AND OUT TO THE SIDES, CREATING A UNIQUE SPLASHING/CHUGGING ACTION ON THE SURFACE, CHANNELING WATER INTO THE INTERNAL OUT THE SIDE OF THE GILLS AND BELOW THE BAIT, GENERATING ENTICING BUBBLES AND DISTURBANCE THAT WILL CATCH THE ATTENTION OF FISH. THIS SYSTEM ACTS LIKE A LIP, UTILIZING THE WATER PRESSURE THAT IS PUSHED THROUGH THE CHAMBERS TO KEEP THE LURE FROM SKIPPING ACROSS THE WATER, HELPING TO KEEP THE LURE GROUNDED SO IT CAN BE WORKED FASTER. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE LURE IS PAUSED, WATER FLOWS OUT OF THE CHAMBER, CAUSING THE TOPWATER LURE TO RAISE ITS HEAD AND SURVEY ITS SURROUNDINGS. THE LURE CAN BE WORKED AS A CONVENTIONAL POPPER, AND WITH GENTLE ROD-TIP ACTION, IT'LL ROLL-WALK DYNAMICALLY, COMBINING THE WINNING ELEMENTS OF BOTH POPPERS AND DOG-WALKERS. FOR BEST RESULTS, FISH THIS VERSATILE BAIT AROUND ROCKY OR RIPRAP BANKS, OVER GRASS BEDS, OR ON SHALLOW POINTS EARLY IN THE MORNING. TYPE FLOATING LENGTH 3-1/4" WEIGHT 1/2OZ HOOK #4

Field Notes

Fish this bait on the surface around rocky or riprap banks, over grass beds, or on shallow points, especially early in the morning. It can be worked like a popper with chugs and pauses, or with gentle rod-tip action to roll-walk it when fish want a more subtle surface presentation.

Pros

  • Versatile surface action combines popping and walking
  • Floating design stays on top and can be paused to trigger strikes
  • Works well around shallow cover and shoreline structure

Cons

  • Surface bait can be less effective in heavy wind or rough water
  • May require some cadence tuning to get the best walk/roll action
