Solitude Fly Company

Field Notes

A terrestrial dry fly pattern meant to imitate an ant on the water surface. Fish it on calm to lightly riffled water when trout are looking up, especially during warm-weather hatches or when ants are blown into the stream. Dead-drift it naturally with a light tippet for the best presentation.

Pros

  • Effective terrestrial pattern for surface-feeding trout
  • High-visibility colors help track the fly
  • Simple dead-drift presentation

Cons

  • Can be less effective in heavy chop or fast current
  • May require careful drag-free drift
