Rapala VMC Online Ltd.

Field Notes

This is an umbrella rig for presenting multiple baitfish-style lures at once. It is best used with steady casting or slow retrieves to imitate a small school and cover water efficiently. The Schoolie style is especially useful when bass are feeding on shad or other small forage in open water.

Pros

  • Creates a realistic school-of-bait presentation
  • Covers water quickly and can trigger reaction bites
  • Good match for shad-feeding bass

Cons

  • Can be cumbersome to cast and retrieve
  • May be restricted by local regulations
  • Not ideal around heavy vegetation or very tight cover
